AIMA Renewals Portal now accepts residence permits expiring up to January 2027
In short: The AIMA Renewals Portal now accepts renewals of residence permits that expire up to 31 January 2027. The window covers permits that expired since 1 July 2025 and, for ARI (investment residence permits), since 22 February 2020.
What changes
On the date of this news (25 October 2026), the official portal of AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum) says it accepts requests for:
- Renewal of residence permits (autorizações de residência) that expire after 1 July 2025 and up to 31 January 2027;
- Renewal of ARI (autorização de residência para investimento, investment residence permits) that expired from 22 February 2020 up to 31 January 2027.
This means that if your permit expires in December 2026 or January 2027, you can already renew it online, without waiting for an in-person appointment.
Who this applies to
Foreign citizens with a temporary residence permit or an ARI that expires within the dates above. It is a good idea not to leave the request to the last minute.
What you can do
- Follow the step-by-step guide to residence permit renewal at AIMA.
- If you have a CPLP permit, see the CPLP residence permit guide; for questions about the card, see the residence permit guide.
- Always use the official address portal-renovacoes.aima.gov.pt and be careful with middlemen who charge for the request.
