Portugal's skilled job seeker visa is still unavailable at consulates
What is the situation
Law no. 61/2025 (Lei n.º 61/2025) suspended the old job seeker visa from 23 October 2025 and created a replacement: a visa to look for skilled work (procura de trabalho qualificado). To start working, this visa needs a portaria (government regulation) that defines which specialised technical skills give access to it.
On the date of this news, the official visa portal still says the visa is not available and does not publish a list of documents. Consulates do not accept applications.
What you can do
- Do you have a job offer or work contract? Use the work visa.
- Want to see all the options? See the types of visa for Portugal.
- Want to know when it changes? We check the visa portal every day and will update the job seeker visa guide as soon as the portaria is published.
